ASC
ASC is the builder and now maintainer of Collins Class submarines and the shipbuilder for the Air Warfare Destroyer program.
With more than 2,500 employees at three facilities in South Australia and Western Australia, ASC has evolved into Australia’s largest specialised defence shipbuilding organisation.
In addition to its build and maintain capabilities, ASC has also been an integral part of submariner training at the Submarine Training and Systems Centre at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia since 1992. As part of this training ASC developed, in collaboration with the Royal Australian Navy, a virtual submarine walk-through simulation which provides a highly realistic, 3D virtual training environment.
The virtual submarine walkthrough simulation is a highly effective training tool which allows exploration of the submarine in ways that was previously unavailable due to limited access to physical submarines. It is used in initial training and platform familiarisation, safety routines and the location and recognition of fitted equipment and can be used to support operator, maintenance and procedural training.
