Cathy Smith HBA, MA, PhD
Cathy Smith has worked in the field of simulation for over 25 years, consulting for local, national, and international educational and assessment organizations. Cathy has a PhD in drama from the University of Toronto and draws on her facilitation, performance, and simulated patient (SP) experiences to collaborate in the development of simulation learning for health professionals at all career stages and in diverse formats, including face-to-face and web-based programs. A member of the Wilson Centre for Research in Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, she presents frequently at national and international conferences and writes about simulation methodology. Her research interests include exploring the concept of performance in simulation and various aspects of SP methodology. She served on the submission sub-committee and then as the Conference Chair of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators annual conference for several years. Through this experience, she has had the opportunity to vet many abstracts. She is also a member of the Editorial Board for Advances in Simulation.
